In the above design.....A bold contrast between a smooth and glossy container and fresh globe grapes stand contrasting to rustic curly willow, rattlesnake ginger and feathery king protea.

All of these individual textures create strong interest and diversity within this design.

Texture is both the tactile and visible surface quality of the materials in a floral design, including flowers, foliages, accessories and the container.   Texture can be described as smooth or rough, coarse or fine, bright or dull, glossy, matte, shiny, waxy, fuzzy, prickly, grainy, leathery, or velvety.  Texture adds both interest and contrast to floral design.  Texture is engaging, making the viewer want to reach out and touch it.  All flowers and foliages posses texture.   The mixture of flowers with similar textures creates harmony and unity, while the mixture of flowers with dissimilar textures increases depth and visual interest.
