Once you are computerized, you will need access to the internet. This is done though an Internet Service Provider. (ISP) There are several of them. Shop around and ask friends. Simple monthly internet access service should cost less than $20 per month.

To set up your own virtual server web site you will need to develop and register a domain name. fancyflowers.com, suzyflowers.com and samblooms.com are domain names. The names must be registered with the InterNIC. Each business has it’s own unique registered domain name. The cost is about $50 for set up and $35 per year for registration.

Next you need a web site hosting service. This is a computer server that references your domain name, holds your website pages, operates 24 hours a day and allows anyone on the internet to seek out and view your website pages. Most ISPs have hosting services. The cost to host a virtual server will run around $100 per month.

To develop your site you will need website development software. I suggest Microsoft FrontPage (costs $479) or Macromedia   Deamweaver (costs $299). . FrontPage and Dreamweaver software make it easy for someone who doesn't understand HTML language to design a website. If you have worked with Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher you will find FrontPage or Dreamweaver easy to understand.

Yes, you can hire someone to develop and manage a website for you. Trust me, you will want to do this yourself. You want to be able to make frequent changes and updates in your website. You want to be able to add the photographs of “the biggest wedding you ever did” just as quickly as you can, not when you website manager has the time or when you can afford to have him or her do it.
