At 8:00am, EST while traveling on business in New York City, Bill Bucks checks his e-mail, reads Sam Bloom’s message and slaps his forehead with the palm of his hand. Quickly, Bill Bucks accesses Sam Blooms’ website and starts reviewing the beautiful selection of current photographs of floral arrangements suggested for anniversaries. Bill Bucks makes a selection, orders the biggest arrangement, types out a message for the enclosure card and special delivery instructions. He then charges the sale to his Visa Card and transmits the order. Bill then types and sends a quick personal e-mail message to Sam Blooms. “Thanks for the reminder Sam. Once again, you have saved my sorry butt.”

At 7:00am, PST, Bill Blooms’ design room manager checks for overnight orders in the e-mail order folder.  He copies Bill Bucks order and adds it to the design & delivery schedule. At 8:30am Sam Blooms checks his e-mail, reads Bill Bucks message, checks the design & delivery schedule, smiles widely and takes a sip of coffee.

These examples are not impossible, expensive or futuristic. They are real, they are affordable and they are now!

Just as no one would consider going into business without a business card, within a decade no one will consider going into business without an internet website.

And, surprisingly, it’s not that difficult to become internet active and set up a working website. You will need a decent computer. The computer should have a 800+ MHz processor, 128 MB of SDRAM memory, 10GB of hard drive, 64X CD-ROM and a 56K modem or DSL / Cable connection. You can buy a top quality computer with all of the above, plus lots of other bell & whistles for less than $1,500. You will also want a printer, a simple digital camera and a flatbed scanner. These can be found for less that $200 each.
